The black pine (lat. Pinus Nigra) is an evergreen coniferous tree that is endemic to the mountains of Southern Europe. In Greece, it is a very common tree, which forms extensive pine forests. It grows in mainland areas but also in islands such as Evia, Lesvos, Samos, and Thassos.
In its full growth, the black pine may reach 30-40 meters in height. Its leaves look like needles in dark green, irregularly curved, and are joined in pairs. When the tree is at a young age, its foliage is rich and has an oval or conical shape.
The name of the tree (black pine, black pine) is due to the color of its pine cone.
