Paeonia peregrina is a species of flowering plant that is endemic to the Balkan Peninsula. With its characteristic glossy, red flower, it is considered one of the most beautiful perennials. In Greece, these red paeonies grow on the slopes and the peaks of Mount Falakro and Paggaio, on the mountains of Evros and Ypsario in Thassos, and around the lakes Vistonida and Mitrikou. Along with other wildflowers such as the haberlea, the wild lilac, and the buckthorn of Rhodope, it is in the group of rare plants that the visitor can see even today in the aesthetic forest of Nestos river.

Its use for therapeutic purposes has been known since antiquity.

It blooms from spring to early summer.
