Artemis-Bendis

  • thumb_img

Piece of marble statue of Artemis-Bendis. The goddess stands upright and frontal. She wears a short chitoniskos and above the nebris (fawn skin) tied at the waist with thin belt. Her himation is twisted in her left hand. It is a huge statue (preserved height 1.20 m) that testifies the strong presence of Thracians in the Amphipolis region. Perhaps the "Hellenized" superficies of the goddess may be due to an Athenian sculptor.
