Bendis

Marble statue of Bendis from Laureion, late 4th - early 3rd c. BC.

Marble statue of Bendis. The goddess stands upright and frontal. She wears a short chtitoniskos and above the nebris (fawn skin), alopeke (fox fur cap) and endromides (soft boots). She holds a phiale (patera) in her right hand, with which she is ready to pour out libations, and in her left perhaps a scepter or a spear. The statue was found in the Laureion region. Thracians are known to be present and work in the mines of Laureion. For this reason, a sanctuary dedicated to the Thracian goddess is supposed in the region.
