Bacchus' marine triumph is depicted on a tin-glazed earthenware, meant for cooling wine. The youthful god Dionysus rides a chariot drawn by two panthers. Satyrs with billy-goated feet, Nymphs, and winged Erotides, who either play music or are drunk in a divine frenzy, sit on the chariot, as well as around it and on aquatic creatures. Mountain ranges and buildings with architecture evocative of Italian cityscapes appear in the background. The vessel is supported by lions' legs, and its handles are shaped like lions' heads.
