The central medal of a mosaic in the triclinium (the Roman dining room in which there were three beds) of a Roman house in Sparta depicts the god Dionysus intoxicated. He is naked and wears an ivy wreath. His posture indicates that he is staggering. He is supported by a Satyr to the right and a Maenad to the left, who also wear ivy wreaths. They are holding a torch and a thyrsus. Behind them, a goat can be seen. The central representation is surrounded by animals, plants and theatrical masks, depicted in circular or rectangular decorative frames.
