The gods Ares and Aphrodite are depicted riding in a quadriga (a chariot drawn by four horses). He is girded with his sword, and wears a long garment (xystis) and a helmet. He is about to attack one of the Giants that are waiting for him (in the lower zone) with the spear in his right hand. Besides him, Aphrodite drives the chariot. The winged Eros is aiming his bow from the back of the first horse. Gods and heroes are engaged in combat with the Gigantes in the lower zone and on the reverse side of the amphora (Gigantomachy).
