On a mosaic floor from Philippopolis in Syria, the god Ares and Aphrodite are depicted. On the right, Ares rests on his spear, naked, with his back to the viewer. On the left, Aphrodite, half-naked, holds her sceptre and welcomes Ares to her private chambers. Both gods have nimbus on their heads. They are accompanied by three female figures bearing the names Euprepeia, Charis, and Skope, and six winged Erotides holding Ares’ shield, sword, and helmet.
