The poet and musician Mousaios and the Muse Calliope are depicted both on the cup’s medallion and on its exterior. Calliope wears a long chiton and holds a phiale (vessel for libations) and an oenochoe in her hands. Mousaios wears a laurel wreath, and a himation that partially covers his body. He holds a lyre either alone or together with the Muse Calliope. The figures are identified thanks to inscriptions.
