Mousaios and Apollo

On the primary side of this chous (a small oenochoe used by children to taste wine during the Anthesteria festival), the god Apollo is depicted sitting on a diphros (stool with four legs). He holds a laurel branch in his left hand and extends his right towards a boy, who approaches holding a lyre. The boy may be the young Mousaios, taking music lessons by Apollo himself.
