Head of the god Dionysus (height 0.60 m.) made of Parian marble. It belonged to a gigantic statue of the god. The god is depicted young, beardless and with long hair. This statue was erected in the center of a big votive monument, in the sanctuary of Dionysus (Dionysion), along with the personifications of various theatrical genres (e.g. Comedy), thus promoting Dionysus as the protector of the dramatic arts.
