Both the case and the lid of the sarcophagus are decorated with scenes from the world of Dionysus.
In the center of the case, there is god Dionysus on a chariot, dragged by a Centaur. He is young, half-naked, wearing only a himation and a wreath made of leaves and fruits and holds on his head and he holds a thyrsos (stick that ends in a pine cone with ivy and vine leaves). Ariadne, Dionysus's wife, is sleeping. The god is accompanied by Satyrs, Silens and Maenads dancing playing musical instruments (flute, panpipe, drum, lyre, rattles), as well as the goat-foot god Pan and a family of Centaurs.
On the one narrow side of the sarcophagus an ithyphallic Pan plays the flute, while jumping over a basket with a snake. In front of him, there is a herm in the shape of Priapus (son of Dionysus and Aphrodite, god of fertility, protector of pack and domestic animals, fruit plants, gardens and male genitals). On the other side, there are two Satyrs, a child and an adult.
On the left half of the lid, Dionysus holding a thyrsos is on a chariot dragged by lions. He is accompanied by two Maenads, a Satyr and Pan dancing. To the right, the deceased is depicted wearing a toga and holding a wrapped papyrus, along with two Maenads dancing, a Satyr playing the panpine and Pan playing a flute. The corners of the lid are decorated with masks of Dionysus crowned with ivy wreath.
