Ο Άρης ονομάζεται έτσι, επειδή διοικεί τους άνδρες στον πόλεμο ή ονομάζεται Mamers από τους Σαβίνους, στους οποίους είναι αγαπητός.

Mars is named for the fact that he commands the mares (= 'males') in war, or that he is called Mamers among the Sabines, who love him very much.
