Τhe head of young Dionysos is depicted οn the obverse of a silver tetradrachm minted in Maroneia. The god is young and beardless. He wears an ivy wreath. On the reverse, there is Dionysos standing in a posture reminiscent of a statue (perhaps it is the cult statue of Dionysos housed in its temple in Maroneia). He is represented nude holding a bunch of grapes in his right hand, two spears and chlamys in his left hand. There are also the inscriptions ΔΙΟΝΥΣΟΥ ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ (Dionysos Soter / Savior), the ethnic name ΜΑΡΩΝΙΤΩΝ (by Maroneian’s citizens) and the monogram ΜΡΤ.
