The river-god Hebros and his tributaries Arda and Tonzos

On the reverse side of a bronze coin dated to the time of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius (161-180 AD), the river-god Hebros is depicted with his two tributaries, Ardas (or Harpessos in ancient Greek) and Tonzos, deified too. They are all reclining, facing to the left. Under the central figure there is a galley between two fishes. The inscription ΑΔΡΙΑΝΟΠΟΛΕΙΤ indicates the ethnic name of the citizens of Handrianopolis.
