The deified Philippopolis with a turreted crown and the river-god Hebros

On the reverse of a bronze coin dated to the time of the Roman emperor Caracalla, a female figure is depicted, who is possibly identified with the city-goddess Philippopolis. She wears a turreted crown on her head, and she is depicted sitting on a rock. At her feet the river-god Hebros is lying, since Philippopolis is builded on both sides of the Hebros (Maritsa in Bulgarian) reverbed. One can read the inscription ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ (by the citizens of Philippopolis).
