A custom that is followed in many areas of Thrace and Eastern Macedonia and is still alive in many areas of Evros. It is celebrated on 8 January, which is the feast of St. Dominiki or Domni. The purpose of Babo is to honor the grandmother of the family for her contribution to the birth of the children.

On this day, men have to stay at home. Those daring men that step out during babo, are splashed with water by the women of the community. This explains the alternative name of the custom, Vrexoudiaki (splashing water).
