Squacco Heron 

The squacco heron (lat. Ardeola ralloide) is a small-sized heron that is endemic in Southern Europe, North Africa, and central Asia. It is also endemic in various areas of Greece. Its breeding habitats in East Macedonia and Thrace are marshy wetlands near the Nestos delta, in the forests by the rivers Evros and Ardas, by the lakes Vistonida and Ismarida, near the lagoons of Porto Lagos, Aliki, Ptelea, Xirolimni, Karatza, on the island of Thassos, and the nearby rocky islets (Kinira and Xironisi). It is a migratory bird.
