The barn owl (Latin Tyto alba) is a bird that looks like an owl. Contrary, of course, to what is believed, the barn owl is not an owl in the strict sense of the term. It is a species with a wide distribution on worldwide, although it is missing from some areas.
Like true owls, it is a nocturnal species, but may become active just before dusk and can sometimes be seen flying during the day.
