The medieval tower of Fonias
The tower is built at the mouth of the river Fonias. It was built after 1431 and was an autonomous tower that was part of the defense program of Samothrace. For its construction, treated river stones were used and tiles in the joints. It was three-story but at present it is preserved at a height of 12 m. The entrance to the tower was located on the 1st floor.
The settlement discovered around the tower dates from the Archaic period (7th-6th century BC) to the Byzantine.
