Menoikio

Mountain of the regional unit of Drama. It is the natural border between the regional units of Drama and Serres. In ancient times, marble quarries and iron mines were located in the area, whereas quarries are still operating here.

The wild horses living in the mountains are the most characteristic and impressive species of the area. Moreover, the mountain habitat offers shelter to many bird species including the short-toed snake eagle, the golden eagle, the peregrine falcon, the Eurasian eagle-owl, the τσαλαπετεινός, the σπίνος, the white scavenger vulture, the lesser kestrel, the Eurasian sparrowhawk.
