Prokne kills Itys

In this kylix, Prokne is depicted at the moment she is ready to slaughter her son, Itys. She holds a sword in her right hand, ready to penetrate her son’s body, while she is trying to immobilize him with her left hand. Itys is lying on a bed (kline). He raises his hands towards her mother begging and at the same time he is trying to escape. The inscription AEDONAI is above Prokne.
