Town in the region of Drama. The area has been inhabited since the ancient years, as Neolithic settlements were discovered. Refugees from Eastern Thrace, Asia Minor and Pontus settled in the city after 1922. Most of them work in agriculture and livestock breeding.

Every summer, a Corn Festival takes place.
