Ismidal is a kind of sweet of the Pomak cuisine. It is typically made from bread, oil, butter, sugar, and honey. Most often, ismidal is also been prepared from bread made without yeast. A version of ismidal which was popular among people who were more well-to-do was made from cornmeal bread and zucchini.
Ismidal is either served at home with milk and honey or consumed by farmers and shepherds in the fields, as a snack. It is also associated with the customs of birth: it was offered seven days after the child was born, as a treat to visiting family and neighbors - often served with sour milk or dried fruit juice.
