The frenzy of Lycurgus

At the center fo the scene Lycurgus kneels on an altar. He is naked and wears only a chlamys. He is grasping a little boy, Philonicus, and threatening him with his sword. From the left comes Thaseos, the boy’s father, holding a sword. He is naked, wears only chlamys and a conical cap. In his left hand he holds a sheath. Inscriptions in Latin help identify the figures: TASEOS, LVQORCOS and PILONICOS TASEIO FILIOS.
