Beech (lat. Fagus sylvatica) is a deciduous tree that is native to temperate Europe, Asia, and North America. It normally grows at an altitude of 500–900 meters. Beeches prevail and form pure forests at an altitude of above 1100 meters, while lower beeches, along with various other mountain deciduous trees, form mixed mountain forests. In Greece, beech forests are found in Sterea Ellada, Thessaly, and Northern Greece.
