One of the most important Ottoman monuments of Komotini. It was founded in 1585 by Ahmet efendi, who was in charge of the financial service of the Ottoman Empire under Murat III.
Its entrance is of monumental nature. In the main area there is an impressive marble mihrab (sanctuary) with the sculptural decoration and the famous Bursa tiles (iznik) and the marble minbar (pulpit) with embossed designs. The mosque is a representative example of classical Ottoman architecture with a central dome and five small ones at the back. Its 47 meter-high minaret is built of carved yellow stones.
The mosque includes a library, a madrasah (seminary), a cemetery, baths and a mausoleum. Nowadays, the offices of the Mufti and the management Committee of the Komotini Muslim Property are hosted in the halls of the seminary.
