Founded by the monastery of Philotheos on Mount Athos in 13th century this monastery is in the southern part of Thassos, near Theologos, built on the edge of the cliff.
In the monastery exhibits of the nails which according to legend were used in the crucifiction of Jesus. According to tradition, the local St. Lucas practiced ascetism in the monastery and built a small church from which holy water flowed.
Archangel Michael is the patron saint of Thassos and celebrates on November 8 and the Tuesday after Easter.
