Village in the regional unit of Rodopi. The inhabitants, mostly refugees from Eastern Thrace and Asia Minor, work mainly in agriculture, fishing, and trade.
The village features a beach, a port, and a center for environmental education. Around the village, there are wetlands that are listed as protected landscapes of the National Park of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
In the summer, various events take place in the village, such as the religious festival of Agia Marina, a shadow theater festival, and a sardine festival.
