Orpheus taming the wild animals

Fresco from the atrium of the House of Orpheus at Pompeii. Orpheus is seated within a landscape with rocks and a lake. He is wearing a phrygian cap, he is naked, with only a red cloak (himation) and he is playing lyra. His music is taming the wild animals around him (lion, leopards, deer, hare, wild boars, elephant, birds, aquatic birds).

Στον δυτικό τοίχο του αιθρίου (Χώρος 18). Δεξιά και αριστερά από την κεντρική σκηνή ορθογώνια πλαίσια που διακοσμούνται με πτηνά, φυτά και αρχιτεκτονικές κατασκευές, χαρακτηριστικά στις πομπηιανές τοιχογραφίες.
