Ipsario is the highest mountain of Thassos with its top at an altitude of 1,400 meters. The diverse vegetation adorns the slopes of the mountain with an abundance of firs, black pines, plane trees, chestnuts, other trees that soften the harshness of the mountains.

There are many hiking trails that lead to the mountain top where visitors can stay overnight in the beautiful shelter of the local Mountaineering Club.  Some of the hiking trails require light hiking like that of Theologos and some others require walking following the well-signed path, like the one starting from Potamia. It is a destination that will reward you with its beautiful forest trails and spectacular views of the Aegean Sea and Mount Athos.

It has been enlisted in the Special Protection Zone of the Natura 2000 network and is a habitat of rare species or a passing station for many birds.
