Patatnik is a traditional Thracian dish that is mainly popular throughout the area of the Rhodope Mountains. It is also popular in other Balkan countries, such as Bulgaria. In its simplest - and most traditional version - it is cooked with potatoes, onions, and mint. In more recent versions, the basic filling can be enriched with cheese, eggs, garlic, parsley, and cheese. Potatoes are initially baked in the oven and then served in the form of a pie, as a crepe, or even as potato meatballs.
