Thermes

Village of the Xanthi region that belongs to the Pomakochoria, and is built near the Greek-Bulgarian border. The village is divided into the settlements of Ano Thermes, Meses Thermes, Kato Thermes and Thermal Springs. The village is famous because of Mithras, the ancient Persian god of the sun, who was worshiped in the area. A relief of Mithra’s of the 2rd-3rd century AD carved on a rock can still be seen. The village is also famous for its thermal springs, to which it owes its name. There are organized thermal baths free of charge with several facilities.
