Lefkogia lake

Lefkogia is an artificial lake in the regional unit of Drama. It is located in the northern part of the plain of Nevrokopi, at a distance of half a kilometer from the settlement of Lefkogia and 51 kilometers from Drama. A dam withholds the waters of the surrounding streams and then releases them in view of irrigating the nearby plateau.

The main feature of the lake is its small fjords, the rich morphology of its banks, and the wetlands on the northern shores. Rich forests and other vegetation growing around the lake, complement the diverse ecosystem; the avifauna of the area is also important, with various species living here, for instance, great cormorants, grey herons, short-toed snake eagles, and perns - among others. The lake is also an important habitat for many amphibians, reptiles, and wild mammals.
