Latin epigrammatist born between AD 38 and 41 in Augusta Bilbilis in the Roman province of Hispania Tarraconensis. His works include the Liber spectaculorum / Liber de spectaculis (AD 80), of which there survive 33 epigrams inspired by the grand spectacles to which the Roman public was treated when Titus officially opened the Flavian Amphitheatre (the Colosseum); 12 books of epigrams published between 86 and 101; and the works Xenia and Apophoreta (AD 84), collections of couplets that are thought to have accompanied gifts offered or received by the poet during the Saturnalia (a festival in honor of the god Saturn held at the end of December).
