Orpheus among the Thracians 

Red-figure bell-krater (bowl for mixing wine and water) attributed to the Painter of London E 497. On the left Orpheus is seating on a rock, holding his lyre, engrossed in his music. The central standing male figure identifies the scene. He wears the typical Thracian dress and holds two javellins. The woman on the right holds a sickle, foreshadowing Orpheus's death. The vessel is dated at ca 440 BC.
