The Platania Railway Station was inaugurated in 1896 and is located outside the settlement of the same name. It belongs to the Thessaloniki-Alexandroupolis line, which is the central railway artery of Northern Greece. It is located between the stations Nikiforos (in the direction of Athens) and Paranesti (in the direction of Alexandroupolis).
Major parts of the station are the shell of the passenger building and other buildings. Some of them have been designated monuments by the Central Council of Newer Monuments.
