Village in Evros, on the border with Turkey and the river Evros.
Pythio is known for its castle, with its typical military architecture of the last Byzantine years. It was built in the early 14th century. The village also hosts the tomb of patriarch Cyril VI, who was hanged in Edirne, in 1821.
Pythio is one of the villages of Marides, a group of Thracians with their own special clothes and dialect.
