A marble statue of Ares stands in a niche on the east side of the Brandenburg Gate. Ares is dressed in a helmet, sandals, and a flowing garment that only covers part of his body. He has a shield in his left hand and a sword in his right, which leans on his throne. He rests his left foot on a pedestal, thus giving the impression that he is meditating or resting.
