Gelin bochtsa: a sweet for the bride!

Gelin bochtsa is a traditional syrupy sweet of the Rhodope area.  Literally, 'gelin bohca' in Turkish is used to refer to the parcel, the pieces, that a bride brings into the marriage. The dessert is made from pastry sheets, sweet kaymak cream, and fresh butter amidst the generous layers of pistachios. Today, visitors in Thrace can taste gelin bochtsa in various confectioneries mainly in Xanthi but also in other cities in Thrace.
