The musicians Musaeus and Linus

Renaissance etching with the musicians Musaeus and Linus, Schools of Maso Finiguerra and Baccio Baldini (1470-1475)

On one of the pages of the work "The Florentine Picture-Chronicle," Musaeus and Linus, two mythical musicians, are depicted. Linus is playing a musical instrument with flutes on the left, and Musaeus is singing and playing a type of lute on the right. Two Latin inscriptions, LINUS MUSICCO E POETA and MUSEUS MUSICCO E POETA, are located beneath the musicians (Linus, musician and poet, and Musaeus, musician and poet). The two musicians are dressed in Renaissance garb, while the landscape in the background is reminiscent of Tuscany.

The Florentine Picture-Chronicle is a collection of 99 drawings representing sacred and profane scenes and personages from ancient history.
