Η Θάσος, που είναι ελεύθερο νησί - κάποτε λεγόταν Αέρια ή Αιθρία - απέχει από τη Λήμνο έξι μίλια. Από εκεί τα Άβδηρα στην ενδοχώρα απέχουν είκοσι δύο μίλια, ενώ ο Άθως εξήντα δύο. Σε τέτοια απόσταση από τη Θάσο βρίσκεται και το νησί της Σαμοθράκης, που είναι ελεύθερο νησί, απέναντι από το ποτάμι του Έβρου, ενώ από την Ίμβρο απέχει τριάντα δύο μίλια, από τη Λήμνο είκοσι δύο και από τις θρακικές ακτές τριάντα οκτώ.

The island of Thasos, constituting a free state, is six miles distant from Lemnos; it formerly had the name of Aeria, or Aethria. Abdera, on the mainland, is distant from Thasos twenty-two miles, Athos sixty-two. The island of Samothrace, a free state, facing the river Hebrus, is the same distance from Thasos, being also thirty-two miles from Imbros, twenty-two from Lemnos, and thirty-eight from the coast of Thrace.
