The abduction of Oreithia by Boreas

  • thumb_img
  • thumb_img

Sculpture complex made of marble showing Oreithia being abducted by Boreas. The daughter of the Athenian king, Erechtheus, is depicted being in the hands of Boreas, who is naked and winged. His facial expression (puffy cheeks) indicates his identity (the blowing north wind). He stands over a man with the same expression as him; so he may be the personification of another wind.
