Settlement in the regional unit of Xanthi, near the Greek-Bulgarian border. Kotani is one of the Pomak villages, known as Pomakochoria. The settlement offers stunning views of nature and serves as a popular starting point for hiking trails.
Near the settlement, Momtski Kamen (meaning, The Rock of the Girl) is associated with a folk tradition referring to the collective suicide of young girls during the Ottoman period. According to this tradition, the girls were forced to jump from a tall and steep cliff, with each girl's hair tied to another's, in order to avoid capture by the Ottomans.
