The man-eating horses devouring the king Diomedes

Etruscan scarab with precious stone, where man-eating horses devour King Diomedes, 5th c. BC

A cast of an engraved gem made of gypsum, enclosed in a golden frame, depicts four of the man-eating horses of the Thracian king Diomedes, ready to devour their owner. His chest is already being devoured by one of the horses. A man, most likely Herakles, stands to the right of the horses, while a tree is to the left.
