In the Pomak settlements of mountainous Xanthi, a folk tradition survives to this day that refers to a group suicide of young girls, which took place during the Ottoman period. According to this tradition, the girls were forced to jump from a high and steep rock, being tied together by each other's hair, to avoid being captured by the Ottomans. In some versions of this tradition, it is mentioned that in the places where the girls fell, various female objects were found at a later stage, such as rings.   

This folk tradition is widespread in the Pomak settlements of the mountainous region. It is connected to the sites of Momtsky Kamen in Pachni and Kottani, Gulem Kamen (Big Rock) in Glafki, Cherven Kamen (Red Rock) in Mandaina, as well as to the Marina peak above the Aiora settlement. Similar traditions are found in the Pomak villages located on the Bulgarian side.
