Leivaditis waterfall, also known as Trachoni waterfall is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Balkan peninsula with its waters falling from a height of 40 meters. Located on the borderline of two regional units in Thrace, namely Drama and Kavala, in a difficult-to-access area of unique beauty at a height of 890 meters above the level of the sea, Leivaditis is 15 kilometers away from Trachoni settlement, and at the north of the mountain village Leivaditis. It is formed by the waters of the Mylopotamos river, which is a tributary of Arkoudorema.
The wooded area features beeches, birches, hornbeams, manna ashes, grey alders, and maples. The white-throated dipper, an aquatic bird that is endemic to the area finds food and shelter here. Predators also live here, such as short-toed eagles, perns, buzzards, and sparrowhawks.
According to local legends, this was a place where fairies bathed and where satyrs danced wildly celebrating Dionysus.
Leivaditis can be accessed from both Xanthi and Drama via walking trails in the forest. The best time to visit the waterfall is during winter when the waters freeze creating a unique spectacle.
