A village on the north coast of Samothrace. It is on the borders of the wider archaeological site. Its name means "old city".
The Archaeological Museum of Samothrace and the Sanctuary of the Great Gods are located here. The village used to be the most important port on the island in antiquity. Several important findings were discovered in the area, the most prominent one being the statue of the Winged Victory of Samothrace, also known as the Nike of Samothrace. Being a majestic example of Hellenistic sculpture, it is one of the Louvre's most treasured masterpieces.
