CHIONE

Cum Chione siue ut alii poetae dicunt Philonide Daedalionis filia Apollo et Mercurius una nocte concubuisse dicitur. ea peperit ex Apolline Philammonem, ex Mercurio Autolycum. quae postea in uenatione in Dianam est locuta superbius; itaque ab ea sagittis est interfecta. at pater Daedalion unicam filiam flendo ab Apolline est conuersus in auem daedalionem, id est accipitrem.

ΧΙΟΝΗ

Λέγεται ότι ο Απόλλωνας και ο Ερμής πλάγιασαν την ίδια νύχτα με τη Χιόνη ή, σύμφωνα με άλλους ποιητές, με τη Φιλωνίδα, την κόρη του Δαιδαλίωνα. Από τον Απόλλωνα η Χιόνη γέννησε τον Φιλάμμωνα και από τον Ερμή τον Αυτόλυκο. Αργότερα η κόρη μίλησε περιφρονητικά για την Άρτεμη στο κυνήγι και η θεά τη σκότωσε με τα βέλη της. Και ο πατέρας της, Δαιδαλίωνας, από τον πόνο του για τη μοναχοκόρη του, μεταμορφώθηκε από τον Απόλλωνα στο πουλί Δαιδαλίωνας, δηλαδή σε γεράκι.

CHIONE

Apollo and Hermes are said to have slept the same night with Chione, or, as other poets say, with Philonis, daughter of Daedalion. By Apollo she bore Philammon, and by Hermes, Autolycus. But later, while hunting, she spoke disdainfully of Artemis and the goddess felled her with an arrow. Her father Daedalion was so overcome by grief for his only daughter that Apollo changed him into a hawk.
