Όχι μακριά καθόταν ο νικητής, χαρούμενος που ολοκληρώθηκε ο αγώνας, στο πράσινο γρασίδι, οι ώμοι του έκλιναν σε ένα δέντρο. Η χαρούμενη γη έστεψε τον άρχοντα και τα φυτά ξεπήδησαν περήφανα. Ο ιδρώτας είναι ακόμα ζεστός στο σώμα του και η αναπνοή του πηγαινοέρχεται γρήγορα και η ηρεμία λάμπει στην όψη του κράνους. Αυτός είναι ο Άρης, που ξαπλώνει φοβερός στην γετική πεδιάδα, αφού έχει λεηλατήσει σε φονική μάχη τους Γελωνούς. Η Μπελλόνα τον αλαφραίνει από τα όπλα του, η Μπελλόνα λύνει τα ξαναμμένα από τη σκόνη άλογα και το τεράστιο ακόντιο από κρανιά υψώνεται και φωτίζει τον Έβρο με την τρεμουλιαστή του λάμψη.
